As North Wales’ only permanent Olympic-sized ice rink, Deeside welcomes everyone from complete beginners and recreational skaters to clubs and competitive athletes.

Public Ice Skating

Fancy giving ice skating a go? Public skating sessions run throughout the week at Deeside, giving children, adults, families and groups plenty of opportunities to enjoy time on the ice.

Learn to Ice Skate

Want to feel more confident on the ice or develop your skating skills? Deeside Ice Rink offers the British Ice Skating Learn to Skate pathway for children and adults, with options for complete beginners through to skaters ready to progress their skills.

Programmes include:

• Skate Tots – a fun introduction to skating for younger children.
• Skate UK – British Ice Skating’s Learn to Skate programme for beginners.
• Skate Star – the next stage for skaters ready to develop more advanced skills.
• Diddy Dragons – an ice hockey-themed introduction to skating for younger children.

Ice Discos

Turn up the music and enjoy a different way to experience the ice at one of Deeside’s regular Ice Disco sessions.

With music, lighting and a livelier atmosphere, Ice Discos offer a fun alternative to a traditional public skating session. Family Disco sessions also feature in the rink programme. Check the latest Ice Arena timetable before visiting, as sessions may vary.

Clubs at Deeside Ice Rink

Deeside is also home to an established community of skating and ice hockey clubs, offering opportunities to continue developing your skills, become part of a team and, for some skaters, progress into competitive sport.

Deeside Synchronised Skating Club

Deeside Synchronised Skating Club brings skaters together to perform as teams, combining skating skills, formations and synchronised movement on the ice.

The club was named British Ice Skating Club of the Year in 2025 and has grown to include multiple teams, including Wales’ first inclusive synchronised skating team.

The club’s Inclusive Team creates an opportunity for skaters with different abilities and additional needs to experience synchronised skating within a supportive team environment.

The aim is not only to develop skills on the ice, but to give more people the opportunity to enjoy skating, build confidence and become part of the wider skating community.

Deeside Ice Skating Club

Deeside Ice Skating Club, is a British Ice Skating affiliated club based at Deeside Ice Rink and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.

The club welcomes skaters of all ages and provides opportunities to continue skating, develop skills and take part in club activities, events and competitions. Its skating community includes disciplines such as figure skating, ice dance and synchronised skating.

Deeside Dragons Ice Hockey Club

If you prefer your time on the ice a little faster, Deeside Ice Rink is also home to the Deeside Dragons Ice Hockey Club.

The senior Dragons compete in NIHL Division 1 North, with home fixtures bringing competitive ice hockey and a lively match-night atmosphere to Deeside.
